It is also through the pen that we humans record our own words.
The Quran is divided into 114 surahs, or chapters, and Surah Qalam is the 68th surah. It is a relatively short surah, consisting of only 52 verses. The name Qalam is derived from the word qalam, meaning “pen.”
This surah is so named because it discusses the power and importance of the pen. The first verse of Surah Qalam states: “By the pen and what the pen writes.” This verse emphasizes the power of the pen.
The pen is mightier than the sword, and it is through the pen that we communicate and record our thoughts and experiences. The second verse goes on to say: “You are not, [O Muhammad], by the favor of your Lord, a madman.” This verse is addressed to the Prophet Muhammad, and it reassures him that he is not insane despite the challenges he faces.
